Midthunder is born in New Shiprock Mexico. She is a member of the Assiniboine Fort Peck Tribe. She was born in Shiprock, New Mexico on the Navajo Nation. Later, she relocated to Santa Fe and studied at the Academy for Technology and the Classics while her mother ran an casting studio. Amber has Native American ancestry on her father's side. Both of them are part of the Fort Peck Sioux Tribe. Amber's mother had been adoptive. Amber has unknown her mixed family background.
